the basics

What is Cruise Kauaʻi?

Community carpooling. Neighbours who are already making a trip post their empty seats, and riders heading the same way chip in toward gas.

It is not a taxi or Uber. Drivers are community members, not our employees, and what you pay is cost-sharing, not a fare.

riding

How do I book a seat?

Open 🔍 find a ride, pick one, tell the driver why you need the ride and choose your seats. You pay by card when you send the request.

The driver accepts or declines. Once they accept you are on the ride, and you can agree the pickup spot with them in 💬 inbox. If they decline, you get everything back.

You can also make a price offer when you book. The driver can take it or ask for the listed price.

No ride that works for me. Now what?

Post a 🙋 ride request with where you are going and when. Drivers heading that way see it and can answer with a ride. If you have texts switched on, we let you know when a matching ride is posted.

Same trip every week? Make the request repeat weekly and it posts itself a week ahead.

Why do visitors pay more?

Drivers set two prices for each seat: a resident price and a visitor price. If you have a Hawaiʻi ID you pay the resident price. Visitors pay the visitor price, which is higher on purpose so rides stay affordable for the people who live here.

Your account gets resident pricing once our team has checked your Hawaiʻi ID. The price you see on a ride is already the one for you. Some drivers offer rides to residents only or to visitors only.

cancelling and refunds

Can I cancel, and do I get my money back?

Before the driver accepts, withdraw your request any time and you get everything back.

After the driver accepts, it depends on how close to departure you cancel, in Hawaiʻi time:

  • 24 hours or more before: 100% of the ride amount back
  • 2 to 24 hours before: 50% of the ride amount back
  • under 2 hours: no refund

When you cancel a confirmed seat, the fees on top of the ride amount are not refunded.

What if the driver says no or cancels?

You get a full refund, fees included, and we email you right away. Refunds go back to the card you paid with and usually show within 5 to 10 days.

driving

How do I become a driver?

From 👤 account: finish your profile, accept the agreements (including the driver agreement), upload your driver's licence and insurance card, and add your vehicle with photos.

Our team checks everything by hand. Once your licence and vehicle are verified you can 🚗 post a ride.

How do drivers get paid?

Riders pay when they book. After the ride, the ride amount is sent to your bank through Stripe.

Set up payouts once from your account; Stripe walks you through it. Payouts go out a day or two after the ride, and Stripe usually lands them in 2 to 3 business days.

safety

How do I stay safe?

Look at a person's profile and ratings before you book or accept. Keep the chat in the app; your phone number stays private.

Every profile, ride and message has a report option, and our team reviews reports within 24 hours. You can also block anyone you would rather not ride with.

In an emergency, call 911 first.
